Is there a difference between thrifted and vintage clothing?

I just keep reading vintage and thrifted everywhere and I have no idea whether there is a difference between the two.

  • Vintage NYC says:

"Thrifted" refers to clothing purchased in a thrift store and, as such, is simply second-hand or pre-owned clothing, irrespective of how old it is.

"Vintage" usually refers to items (clothing, cars…) which are less than 100 hundred years old, as opposed to "antique" which is used to define things made at least 100 years ago.

However, in the vintage clothing trade, people often use the term "antique" to refer to garments made before the 1940s and the word "vintage" for clothes made in the 1940s, 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s.

Things made in the 1990s are not yet vintage – they are just way out of date, as in not even old enough to be cool yet!…

    Hope this helps!

Vintage clothing is old clothing- mainly from the past…like a vintage belt from the 60s. Thrift is basically kind of cheaper and used, I think.

Vintage stores focus on used older items that are STYLISH and fashionable.

Thrift stores don’t care if items are vintage or not.
